The poshest area of New Delhi is a bit farther south and the Diplomatic Enclave of Chanakyapuri is not far away. Chandni Chowk was built in the 19th century by the Mughal Emperor Shahajahan and it was inhabited by the well-to-do families of the time. Today it is one of the country's best known wholesale markets for textiles, electronic goods, and watches. The Dilli Haat Food and Crafts Bazaar is a one-stop shopping place for tourists, offering not only various arts and handicrafts from throughout India, but also a taste of the country’s ethnic cuisines.
